Luna's - A Clovis Treasure

Luna’s has great food and a comfortable, homely atmosphere with great service. It’s far and few between when I been treated so courteously and been taken care of so well. The staff is so friendly. I actually felt as if I was eating a home-cooked meal amongst friends and family, which they treat you like. I grew up in Clovis, for 30 years, before moving down to Orange County, and almost every time I come back to visit family and friends, I stop by Luna’s.

Go hungry and you start off with some of their homemade bread, but be careful not to eat too much, the pasta portions are huge. I add on a salad with their awesome Italian dressing. I end up dipping my bread in the leftover dressing… yummy.

They have pizza here but it's the traditional Italian kind. Not like American pizza. Carmella introduced us to a garlic pizza years ago, and when we came back for a visit, she half baked it so we could take it home to Laguna Niguel, and finish cooking it there. Our friends down there loved it and so it became one of those things I would HAVE to take back… as well as The Meat Market’s Santa Maria tri-tip. But the pizza is thin, crisp and wonderful. We usually will order the garlic pizza for the table, and although most are a little hesitant at first, there are rarely leftovers, unlike the pasta. We have started adding jalapenos to half, for those of us liking a little spice… just so good.

As for the pasta, portions are large, so be ready to ask for a to-go box. You can either buy a pasta meal and have enough for lunch the next day, or get the child’s portion, which would feed most people (especially if you share a pizza). The pasta is homemade and so good. They have a ½ and ½ plate, and you can get a combo of ½ rigatoni, ravioli, lasagna or spaghetti. I usually get the ravioli as one of my choices, because it’s my favorite of the pastas, and then either the rigatoni or ravioli. Order that with the baked cheese on top… just makes you want to smack yourself it’s so good. My brother-in-law rarely looks at the menu; he just orders the linguine with clam sauce. He is from New Jersey and said this is some of the best he has ever had.

Luna’s is a treasure, and I hope Bert and the rest continue the family business. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves a great Italian experience.
